n examination of the processes employed for development of new pharmaceuticals, focusing on the human use market. After a general introduction to the methodology for drug development, the course will focus on:

(1) the current pharmaceuticals on the market for a specific disease state,

(2) the mode of action of these drugs,

(3) the limitations of the specific approach (ie. side effects, bioavailability), and

(4) promising alternative approaches.
