On February 19-20, 2000, a brave group of researchers set off to the Sierra del Abra region of Mexico, in search of cave and surface forms of Astyanax. Risking life and limb, they returned with numerous fin clips for DNA, as well as some live fish, even some from a new cave population! Their story is told here.
Before arriving at the final destination, there were many obstacles to overcome, including illness and missed and cancelled flights.
